Overview & First Impressions
Embarking on a journey to France with Qatar Airways, our expectations for Business Class were set exceptionally high, with the initial thought that this might indeed be the best business class experience globally. The journey comprised two distinct legs: an initial 8-hour flight to Doha, followed by an 11-hour layover, and then a 6-hour onward flight from Doha to Nice. This review covers both segments, providing a comprehensive look at Qatar Airways' Business Class offering.
Our journey began with a visit to the Qatar Airways Premium Lounge at our departure airport. The lounge experience was notably serene, boasting an "announcement-free" policy designed to maintain a tranquil environment. This attention to detail immediately set a luxurious tone for the trip. While the lounge offered various dining options, including a beef restaurant, other choices like macarons and mushroom dishes were available. The overall impression was one of refined comfort, though our time in the lounge was brief due to a tight boarding schedule. Despite being among the last to board, we made our flight, marking the start of what promised to be an exceptional travel experience.
The Details
The first leg of our journey was aboard an Airbus aircraft, which immediately impressed with its spaciousness and the highly acclaimed privacy doors—a hallmark of Qatar Airways' Business Class. These sliding doors offered an unparalleled sense of personal space, making it ideal for business travelers seeking uninterrupted work or rest. The seat itself was remarkably comfortable and could transform into a fully lie-flat bed, although due to luggage, the full extension wasn't utilized. Key amenities included an electric socket for charging devices, a large, furry blanket, and a comprehensive inflight entertainment system.
The second leg, from Doha to Nice, was on a Boeing 787-8. This aircraft presented a slightly different experience. While also featuring a lie-flat seat and ample legroom, it was noticeably smaller and offered less privacy compared to the Airbus. The absence of privacy doors made the cabin feel more open and cozier, with passengers seated closer together. Despite the differences, the seat functions were intuitive, allowing for easy conversion to a bed. Both flights provided a cute vanity bag from Diptyque, containing quality amenities such as socks, hand cream, face cream, and a travel-sized perfume with a fresh, woody scent. Pajamas were also provided, enhancing the comfort of the long-haul flights. The bathrooms, while generally basic, were spacious and included a magnifying mirror and a toothbrush.
Service & Amenities
The culinary experience on Qatar Airways Business Class was a definite highlight. The menu offered an array of choices, allowing passengers to select appetizers, main courses, and desserts. On the first flight, the sea tuna with avocado and chili oil was particularly outstanding, described as one of the most amazing airplane foods ever tasted, earning a perfect 10/10. The lobster main course, while visually appealing, was initially less flavorful but improved significantly with the accompanying sauce. Other options included a scallop amuse-bouche, a basket of various breads with butter, balsamic, and olive oil, and a unique smoky chocolate cream dessert. For the second flight, the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables, featuring cheese inside the chicken breast, was also highly praised.
Beyond the impressive food, the service across both flights was consistently excellent. The crew demonstrated attentiveness and a proactive approach, exemplified by small gestures like switching a coffee to a paper cup for landing on the second flight. Inflight amenities extended to a well-stocked snack bar with potato chips, popcorn, and chocolates, ensuring passengers had options throughout the journey. The provision of high-quality headphones, pajamas, and a luxurious amenity kit from Diptyque further elevated the overall experience, contributing to a sense of being well-cared for during the extensive travel.
Verdict & Who It's For
Qatar Airways Business Class offers a highly commendable travel experience, particularly on the first leg aboard the Airbus. The privacy doors and expansive personal space on the Airbus truly set a benchmark for business class travel, making it an ideal choice for executives or individuals prioritizing solitude and comfort during long flights. The culinary program is a standout, delivering restaurant-quality meals that genuinely impress, notably the sea tuna and the unique desserts. The Diptyque amenity kit and comfortable pajamas further underscore the airline's commitment to luxury and passenger well-being.
While the Boeing 787-8 on the second leg was a slightly different experience—smaller and with less privacy—it still maintained a high standard of comfort and service. The legroom was ample, and the cabin felt cozier. The consistent, attentive service across both flights was a significant positive, showcasing Qatar Airways' dedication to passenger satisfaction. Overall, Qatar Airways Business Class comes highly recommended for frequent business travelers who value exceptional dining, premium amenities, and a high level of comfort. While the 'best in the world' claim might be subject to the specific aircraft type and personal preferences for privacy, it undeniably offers a top-tier business class product that delivers a luxurious and efficient travel experience across its network.
